PubMedID- 22568985 Periostin is a secreted protein that has integrin binding sites and has been shown to be expressed by tumor cells and tumor stroma in melanoma and colon cancer.260 recent examination of fibroblasts isolated from cholangiocarcinoma has shown that these cells are capable of producing periostin and that high levels of periostin production correlate with poor prognosis.261 periostin has been shown to induce cell migration and also emt in pancreatic cancer cells,262 thus it may represent a novel mediator of tumor growth in cholangiocarcinoma.
